Alexander Burnard1

      Alexander Burnard was also known as 1st Laird of Leys.1 He received his original charter from King Robert I, "the Bruce", for lands in the county of Kincardineshire and parts of the Forest of Drum. He was later given lands at Tullibothil and Little Cutler. The family located their home on an artificial island in the Loch of Leys, the name by which the family was thereafter known.1

     John De Forbes was the son of Duncan De Forbes. John De Forbes married Unknown De Lard. John De Forbes died in 1305 in Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness, Scotland. He gave homage to King Edward I by signing the Ragman's Roll in 1295/96. He subsequenty supported Robert the Bruce. He was killed in 1305 while defending Urquhart Castle against Edward II's forces. When the castle surrendered, all were put to the sword.
