He died from disease contracted while in mililtary service.1 He was buried in Logansport, Indiana.1

     Thomas Quaintance was born on 18 March 1840 in Ohio.1 He was the son of Samuel Quaintance and Abigail Salmon.1 Thomas Quaintance was a farmer.1 He was in military service in the Civil War from 1861 to 1863. He was in Co. C, 72nd Regiment, Indiana Infantry.1 He died on 29 December 1863 in Gallatin, Tennessee, at age 23. He died in a hospital of erysipelas.1

Ellis Quaintance1

b. 28 August 1842, d. 15 February 1914
     Ellis Quaintance was born on 28 August 1842 in Ohio.1 He was the son of Samuel Quaintance and Abigail Salmon.1 Ellis Quaintance was a farmer.1 He was in military service in the Civil War between 1861 and 1865. In April, 1861 he enlisted in Co. C, 15th Regt., Ohio Volunteer Infantry for a three-month term. After serving he enlisted in Co. G, 55th Indiana Regt. at Logansport. After eight months he came home and enlisted in Co. C, 135th Indiana Regt. as color-bearer. After being discharged at Indianapolis in 1864, he returned home and enlisted in the 12th Indiana Battery and served to the end of the war.1 He married Laura Long on 3 January 1881.1 Ellis Quaintance died on 15 February 1914 at age 71.1 He was buried in Fink Cemetery, Wea Township, Indiana.1

Eli Quaintance1

b. 8 July 1845, d. 28 February 1920
     Eli Quaintance was born on 8 July 1845.1 He was the son of Samuel Quaintance and Abigail Salmon.1 Eli Quaintance lived before 1861 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. He moved from Crawford County, Ohio.1 He was in military service in the Civil War between 1862 and 1865. In 1862 he enlisted in Co. K, 55th Indiana Volunteers. He served for six months in the winter of 1863-64 in Co. A, 135th Indiana Volunteers and one year in Co. E, 154th Indiana Volunteers as First Sergeant and Color Bearer.1 He married Almina D. Mix on 11 March 1874.1 He was known as "Lightning Rod Quaintance" because of his business selling lightning rods.1 Eli Quaintance married Emma D. Hearn on 26 November 1903.1 Eli Quaintance died on 28 February 1920 at age 74.1 He was buried in Crown Point Cemetery, Kokomo, Indiana.1
