     Elijah Berry was born circa 1750 in Fauquier Co., Virginia.³ He was the son of George Berry and Mary Owens.² Elijah Berry married Susannah Feagin, daughter of Edward Feagin Jr. and Elizabeth Berry, in May 1777 in Fauquier Co., Virginia.^3,2 Elijah Berry was one of the original group of settlers who came into Kentucky from Faquier Co., Virginia in 1783 along with famous frontiersman Simon Kenton. His cabin is shown in sketches of the layout of "Kenton's Station", which was on Lawrence's Creek between the present day sites of Maysville and Old Washington. The Berry family left many descendants in the area. The Berry genealogy has not been entirely straightened out due to the many children and duplication of names.⁴

     Sara Laughlin was born on 1 February 1753 in Pleasant Grove, Little Britain Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Adam Laughlin and Margaret Unknown. Sara Laughlin married James Downing, son of James Downing and Susannah Unknown, in December 1774 in Redstone Old Fort, Brownsville, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. Sara Laughlin died on 15 January 1829 in Stark Co., Ohio, at age 75.

     Drusilla Downing was born on 21 September 1775 in Washington Co., Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of James Downing and Sara Laughlin. Drusilla Downing married an unknown person in 1796 in Hancock Co., West Virginia. She died on 30 December 1835 in Stark Co., Ohio, at age 60.

     James Downing was born in 1721 in Prince George's Co., Maryland. He was the son of Timothy Downing. James Downing married Susannah Unknown in 1746. James Downing died in 1762 in Pennsylvania.¹ Numerous researchers list only five children ( Timothy, John, Robert, James and Ann Nancy ) however, Harold Boles in Ellis Ancestors and several contributors to this work, make a case for four additional children. Possible additional children were William, ( may have married Pheobe ? ) Joseph, Catherine and Elizabeth ( born circa 1765 ) who may have married Thomas Gardner.
