Richard Stout1

b. circa 1615, d. 1705
     Richard Stout was born circa 1615 in Nottinghamshire, England.2 He was the son of John Stout and Elizabeth Bee.2 Richard Stout married Penelope Kent in 1644.1,2,3 He left England as a naval sailor before being discharged in New Amsterdam (N.Y.) He was one of the founders of Gravesend, on Long Island, N.Y., and was also an early settler in Monmouth Co., N.J. near Middletown.1 Richard Stout died in 1705 in Monmouth County, New Jersey.2

     Her married name was Penelope Van Princin It is reported in some sources that she was English and her maiden name was Kent, and that Van Princin was the name of her first husband (killed by the Indians).3 Penelope Kent was born circa 1622 in England.2,4 She married Van Princin (?) circa 1640 in Netherlands.4 Penelope Kent married Richard Stout, son of John Stout and Elizabeth Bee, in 1644.1,2,4 As of 1644,her married name was Stout.1,2,4 Penelope Kent died in 1732 in Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey.2 She came from Holland, and survived a shipwreck and Indian attack (where her first husband was killed) before being rescued and coming to New Amsterdam (N.Y.) where she met and married Richard Stout. Her story is famous in the history of Monmouth County, New Jersey. The shipwreck probably took place on today's Sandy Hook beach.1,4

Jonathan Stout Headstone
     Jonathan Stout was born on 24 June 1761.2 He was the son of Samuel Stout and Ann Van Dyke.1 Jonathan Stout married Rachel Stout, daughter of John Stout and Mabel Sexton.1,3 Jonathan Stout and Rachel Stout lived after 4 September 1796 in Mason County, Kentucky. It was indicated that she left the church in Hopewell to go to Kentucky.4 Jonathan Stout died on 28 August 1819 in Mason County at age 58.2 He was buried in the Old Washington Cemetery, Mason County, Kentucky.2
